Joyce ~ Just left what may be helpful comments, on your previous post. Consider yourself in Zone 5... newer USDA zone maps indicate Zones 5a to 5b... we just covered this in one of our classes, and I gave a very nuanced answer, but you won't go wrong with plants hardy for Zone 5 ~ we'll be covering this pretty completely in "Winterizing the Landscape," as well.

It's good that you've got the winter to prepare, before the hustle and bustle of spring planting is upon you. One more thing to consider this fall, after tilling in organic matter, is sowing a cover crop of winter rye or buckwheat. This germinates now, holds the soil from erosion all winter and is turned back into the soil as green manure, come spring.

Much success and I'm sure, as other folks find your blog, they'll leave helpful tips, as well. ~ Deb
